Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol/THFA/CAS 97-99-4

Short Description:

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a slightly sweet odor. It is a cyclic ether and alcohol that is often used as a solvent or in the production of various chemicals. Pure tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is usually clear and transparent with low viscosity.

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) is soluble in water and a wide range of organic solvents including ethanol, ether and acetone. Its ability to dissolve in both polar and non-polar solvents makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in chemical processes and formulations.

Storage

Stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse.

1. Container: Store THFA in airtight containers made of compatible materials (such as glass or certain plastics) to prevent contamination and evaporation.

2. Temperature: Keep the storage area cool and well ventilated. Ideally, THFA should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

3. Humidity: Maintain a dry environment as moisture will affect the quality of the chemicals.

4. Separation: Store THFA away from incompatible substances such as strong oxidants, acids and bases to prevent any hazardous reactions.

5. Label: Make sure all containers are clearly labeled with the chemical name, hazard information, and date received.

6. Safety Precautions: Observe all relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) recommendations and local regulations regarding storage of chemicals.

Phenethyl alcohol

Is Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol harmful to humans?

1. Inhalation: Inhalation of vapor may cause respiratory irritation. Long-term exposure to high concentrations of vapor may cause more serious respiratory problems.

2. Skin Contact: THFA may cause skin irritation upon contact. It is recommended to wear appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves, when handling this material.

3. Eye Contact: It may cause eye irritation, so protective glasses should be used to prevent contact.

4. Ingestion: Ingestion of THFA may be harmful and may cause gastrointestinal irritation or other adverse effects.

5. Safety Precautions: Always refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of THFA for detailed information on hazards, handling and first aid measures. When working with chemicals, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure adequate ventilation.
