Application

It is miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform, carbon disulfide and other organic solvents. It is difficult to dissolve in water.

Stability

Heating to 470°C decomposes to produce 1-pentene. When heated in the presence of zinc chloride, in addition to 1-pentene, polymers of acetic acid, carbon dioxide and pentene are also generated.
