Short Description:

Cerium fluoride (CeF₃) is typically found as a white or off-white powder. It is an inorganic compound that can also form a crystalline structure.

In its crystalline form, cerium fluoride may take on a more transparent appearance, depending on the size and quality of the crystals.

The compound is often used in a variety of applications, including optics and as a catalyst in chemical reactions.

Cerium fluoride (CeF₃) is generally considered to be insoluble in water. It has a very low solubility in aqueous solutions, meaning that it does not dissolve appreciably when mixed with water.

However, it can be dissolved in strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid, where it can form soluble cerium complexes. In general, its low solubility in water is a characteristic of many metal fluorides.

Application

Cerium Fluoride, is the important raw material for polishing powder, special glass, metallurgical applications. In glass industry, it is considered to be the most efficient glass polishing agent for precision optical polishing.

It is also used to decolorize glass by keeping iron in its ferrous state.

In steel manufacturing, it is used to remove free Oxygen and Sulfur by forming stable oxysulfides and by tying up undesirable trace elements, such as lead and antimony.

Storage conditions

Disposal under dry protective gas,

Keep the receptacle sealed

Put it in a tight container and store in a cool, dry place

Container: Store in airtight containers to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Glass or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers are usually suitable.

Environment: Keep the storage area well ventilated and avoid direct sunlight. Avoid storage in areas with high humidity.

Temperature: Maintain a steady, cool temperature to prevent any potential degradation or reaction with environmental factors.

Label: Clearly label containers with the chemical name, hazard information, and storage date.

Safety Precautions: Please follow any specific safety guidelines provided in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for Cerium Fluoride as inhalation or ingestion may present a health risk.

Stability

Will not decompose if used and stored according to specifications

Avoid contact with acid.
